Senior State Tax Accountant
Position Summary:
The Senior State Tax Accountant will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of US state and local tax return compliance and audits for Trane Technologies. Additionally, the position will assist the State & Local Tax Assistant Director and Tax Director in Davidson, NC with Trane’s state income tax accounting. The Senior Tax Accountant will also interact with other areas of tax (Research & Planning, Federal Tax Projects) as well as the State Tax group to assist with Trane’s tax minimization efforts. The position will report to the Assistant Director – State Tax.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare / review of state income/franchise tax returns (separate, combined & unitary)
- Responsible for state income tax apportionment collection and reconciliation
- Assist in research and analysis of various state & local tax issues
- Assist with state income tax accounting including managing the state effective tax rate
- Assist in the improvement of tax accounting and compliance processes and reporting systems and related internal controls
- Assist with state and local income/franchise tax audits- responding to IDR’s put forth by the taxing jurisdictions
- Responsible for maintaining monthly state cash forecasting
- Assist in technical tax accounting (domestic) support
Professional Requirements:
- BS Degree in Accounting or Finance; MS in taxation preferred.
- 3+ years’ state and local compliance work experience.
- Strong knowledge of ASC 740 (FAS109) and related pronouncements (FIN 48, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize, organize, and perform multiple tasks with varying deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to interact independently with peers and management, possess excellent communication and analytical skills, work under deadlines and multitask.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Corptax and TaxStream
