Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer

This Trane Commercial Systems' Mechanical Systems Engineer position includes responsibility for designing and managing the complex engineering systems within the Arctic Packaged and Modular Chiller product lines.  This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams over multiple disciplines with an objective to discover problems that need to be resolved and then find innovative solutions to those problems.  Success in this role depends on the ability to coordinate with a global team of engineers, designers, project managers, product managers and operations professionals.

Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

• Apply interdisciplinary engineering expertise to solve system design and product application problems
• Support designers with equipment technical details
• Support factory and field problem resolution
• Conduct laboratory testing as required
• Analyze the test result data, perform refrigeration cycle review, heat transfer calculations and prepare reports
• Understanding and familiarity of drafting practices, methods and processes, including GD&T, welding, sheet metal, castings, machining and dimension and tolerance analysis
• Demonstrate responsiveness to the customer (internal and external) and be quality minded in performance of all duties
• Develop and deliver technical presentations for engineering review
• Overnight travel (less than 10%)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 3 years of engineering work experience is required
• Experience with HVAC/R systems is a plus
• Master's Degree in Engineering is a plus

Key Competencies:

• Design or application experience with HVAC products, component selections and performance calculations
• Heat transfer calculations and heat exchanger knowledge
• Experience with application of key hardware components within a refrigeration system such as coils, fans, compressors, motors and controls
• Basic knowledge and experience of instrumentation is preferred
• Chiller system experience is highly preferred
• CAD knowledge and experience with Creo is a plus
• Must have good verbal communications skills and good technical writing and documentation skills
• Must be a self-starter with a high energy level and a high commitment to career
• Must have the ability to quickly and efficiently understand, condense, and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions
• Data & Analytics, making data driven decisions and programming knowledge is a plus
• Ability to apply heat transfer and fluid flow concepts for real world problem solving
