A Digital System Architect is a high-visibility position that is a member of the System Architecture team reporting to the Chief Architect. The System Architecture team is responsible for leading the technology and architecture initiatives for Trane Commercial Controls. A System Architect is ultimately responsible for developing architecture, and applying technology, in a way that benefits both the customers and the business. The person in this role will provide thought leadership, influence, and hands-on engagement to develop, direct, and implement an effective architecture strategy in one of four areas: Controls (Embedded Engineering), Digital (Cloud/IoT Engineering), User Interface (User-Interface Engineering), or Applications (HVAC Application Engineering). This role will guide our Digital applications and focus on cloud and IoT technologies. These strategies include internal technical capabilities, and external technology partnerships. A System Architect will act as a technical mentor to Engineering team members across Trane Commercial Controls, ensuring that robust Engineering processes and design tools are properly understood and effectively applied to meet the expectations of our customers, demands of their applications, and needs of the business.
Responsibilities:
- Hiring, developing, coaching, and growing the capabilities of Digital System Architecture team members. Prepare and deliver clear performance expectations, performance reviews and development plans for direct reports.
- Work with the System Architecture team to develop the system architecture, technology roadmaps, and the high-level requirements, processes, and tools that guide the development teams.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and/or Product Owners on high-level architecture, requirements, and technology plans.
- Collaborate with the Systems Engineering team to ensure that all finished products function together in a high-functioning system.
- Collaborate with the Cybersecurity team to ensure that Cybersecurity policies and practices are supported by the architecture.
- Provide architecture and design support to develop cloud-based solutions and IoT
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering (or equivalent technical experience).
- 10+ years minimum experience in Engineering roles focused on product development
- 5+ years of previous experience with Architecture, Design, or Systems Engineering
- Experience with multiple product development methods (e.g. stage gate, iterative, spiral, waterfall, or Agile).
- Experience working with Cloud (AWS preferred) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology
- Experience working with Java
- Knowledge and understanding of Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and Performance & Scaling
- Experience building scalable web applications
- Prior experience working with mentoring or leadership
