Component Engineering Leader

The Role
The Component Engineering Leader is responsible for the lifecycle development and maintenance of all components used in Trane Technologies products. Influential leadership across SBU and ETC engineering teams as well as other SBU and Corporate functions will be needed to successfully achieve this team's goals.
Principal Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver the Component Engineering capabilities, standard work, and data management for the Enterprise.
• Define, deliver and verify component lifecycle management including component and item classification; requirements and attribute management; document and data management; workflows, change management and governance.
• Define and improve component management processes and capabilities using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platform and other data management tools, using lean continuous improvement.
• Measure and improve component creation and reuse, and component rationalization, in partnership with procurement and business unit engineering.
• Support component related cost reduction, and VAVE through the execution of projects and maintenance of a component project portfolio.
• Develop and maintain long range plans and multi-generational component engineering plan for core components.
• Lead, support, and review/approve change management for component DFSS / DFM / DFR standard work and select project IDRs (independent design reviews).
• Deliver and support Q&R improvement initiatives within critical component categories.
• Oversee the development and documentation of new or modified core components to meet cost, manufacturability, reliability, and functional requirements to support new product development or VAVE programs.
• Develop and oversee global, diverse component engineering team.
• Develop and report annual resource and project plans. Develop and track expense plans.
• Communicate and influence cross-functionally across Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, Integrated Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Aftermarket, Service, Finance and IT to coordinate and execute related component and product lifecycle management activities.
Candidate Profile
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and at least 8 years of experience in product or component engineering in commercial or industrial equipment is required.
• Master's Degree in Engineering or MBA is a plus.
• HVAC or related equipment experience is preferred.
Key Competencies
Required:
• Aptitude for mechanical and/or electrical application equipment design.
• Experience in Component Engineering, Product Engineering or similar field
• Experience with the design, qualification and manufacturing of parts and assemblies across multiple manufacturing processes
• Project management experience
• Cost Reduction initiatives experience
• Organizational and Engineering Change Management experience
• Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to work across corporate and business unit functions, including Design Engineering, Sourcing, Quality and Operations
• Strong team building, collaboration, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to prepare and deliver key program metrics and presentations to various leadership levels
• Proficiency in MS Office, especially in Excel and PowerPoint, Word.
• Proficiency in data management and reporting across multiple platforms
Desired:
• Product lifecycle management (PLM) and drawing/item creation processes, BOM creation and management
• Knowledge of Engineering analysis and design using FEA, CFD and computer simulation analysis.
• Product and component agency, certification and compliance requirements knowledge, including UL, ETL, CSA, etc.)
• Experience with product and component certifications (UL, ETL, CSA), and regulatory requirements (ROHS, REACH, etc.)
• Knowledge of industry specifications and requirements.
• Knowledge of materials, stress and fatigue, and failure modes and mechanisms analysis.
• Failure modes and affects analysis, including DFMEA, PFMEA tools
• Problem assessment and problem-solving analysis / skills
• Energy and desire to drive continuous improvement across Trane Technologies
• Results oriented, collaborative individual with an emphasis placed on achieving overall team performance.
• Six Sigma DFSS Green Belt or Black Belt/Lean Expert preferred.
