SUMMARY

Trane Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Controls Project Developer / Estimator in the Pacific SW Commercial HVAC Region.  As a Controls Project Developer, you will be supporting one of the most challenging and fastest growing career fields, Trane Technologies Energy Services. This role includes working with internal teams and customers to identify and develop turnkey design-build solutions and energy savings contracting projects, including scope of work development, cost estimating, energy savings analysis and proposal support as part of an industry leading Energy Services Company (ESCO). A career with an ESCO demands not only a knowledge of building systems and the energy engineering field, but also requires strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills coupled with the will, determination, work ethic and a desire to succeed.  *You can be located anywhere within the Region, and be based out of Brea, Rocklin, Sacramento, Tempe, El Paso or Albuquerque*

 The Project Developer is responsible for Acquisition Support of Controls project work. This position requires mastery of acquisition, technical aptitude and project management skills. Knowledge of computerized energy simulation tools is considered a plus.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

•  Develop HVAC controls systems and solutions using a combination of Trane equipment and controls and other leading HVAC equipment and systems that include project scoping, concept development, engineering analysis, and system validation.

•  Participate in building “walk-throughs” to identify energy conservation measures in commercial, institutional and industrial facilities.

•  Manage the design including conceptual site plans and preliminary engineering documents through construction documents.

•  Supports Account Managers in developing and establishing project installation budgets.

•  Supports Account Managers in preparing the sub-contractor request for quotation’s (RFQ) including: scope statements; plans and milestone dates; specs; permitting and bonding requirements

•  Develop and write HVAC system level sequence of operations and other system level control requirements.

•  Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, and communicating with customers or their representative.

•  Provide key technical support in pursuit of Trane business, including participation on strategic job acquisition teams.

•  Working knowledge of cost and savings studies incorporating energy conversation measures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

•  Engineering/Technical or Business degree or equivalent work experience required.

•  Minimum 5 years in Energy industry experience.

• Systems/HVAC/Controls industry and Performance Contracting experience.

•  Flexibility to work outside normal work hours/weekends, as required, and ability to handle significant travel, including international, with overnight stays (up to 50%).

•  Experience should demonstrate successful project delivery including project drawings and estimates.

•  Ability to work regularly and dependably as well as function in a team environment.

 

Technical knowledge and skills specific to controls:

•  Understands different controls systems by manufacturer, i.e., Trane, JCI, Honeywell, Siemens, TAC, and how they operate.

•  Familiar with the different protocols that are used, i.e., BACnet, LON, Modbus, DeviceNet, PROFIBUS, ControlNet, by various system.

•  Familiar with integration of various control manufacturers.

•  Understanding of analytics software used in control systems that are integrated with microgrids, co-generation, solar PV among other technologies that can be leveraged for overall efficiency and resiliency.

•  Working knowledge on microgrids and other renewable sources of energy to be incorporated and/or integrated with control systems to assist our Trane Renewal Energy and Power Solutions (TREPS) team.
