Principal Program Manager
Trane has an exciting new opportunity to join our organization as a Principal Program Mangager, where you will manage all aspects of new product development (NPD) programs, from beginning to end, with direct responsibility for project execution while leading a team, or teams, to accomplish specific objectives within a given time frame and available resources. You will also be responsible for the administration, implementation, and management of control projects and accountable for assigned project’s scope of work, schedule, and budget. The Principal Program Manager will lead / oversee major deployment programs while working with internal and external partner groups to create and achieve strategic business goals. Your objective will be to organize the overall team, establish clear roles and responsibilities, and create a high-level workflow plan while developing and managing the master schedule.
In this role, you will manage objectives and influence teams without direct authority, while gaining support and maintaining schedule velocity. You will also leverage project and technical leadership, demonstrated by your background and an engineering mindset. You will be comfortable in ambiguity and an advocate for improving program efficiency and finding ways to scale the team.
Please Note: Candidates must reside at or near La Crosse, WI or Peublo, CO as this is a hybrid work environment (office & remote).
Roles and Responsibilities
- Leads the Business Units most complex and growth driven efforts from concept to value
- Lead cross functional, global teams to meet project objectives
- Facilitate/Lead program charter, scope, commercialization, requirements, risk, planning, schedule development
- Build strong relationships with program sponsors at all levels
- Build cross-functional ownership of NPD (new product development) as a business process within the Commercial HVAC group.
- Assess programs cross-functional resource requirements and Proactively engage sponsors and functional leaders to fill resource gaps on a timely basis to ensure project success
- Manage NPD Program deliverables, risks and timing; utilize critical path management methodologies to manage schedule, scope and resource requirements
- Timely communication of project status to all stakeholders
- Work closely with management and business leaders to create project plans, define scope, and set objectives.
- Plan and analyze assigned projects, establish schedules and project parameters and set procedures to accomplish system objectives, involving complex contracting applications.
- Communicate with customers and their representatives, including building owners, mechanical contractors, subcontractors, and field support staff.
- Examine and review contracts and estimates by performing risk analysis and developing risk plans.
- Establish an operations budget for assigned projects by revising the original estimate based on validated project scope.
- Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of the forecasted cost at completion, and controlling expenses by monitoring assigned project budget
- Partner with cross-functional department leaders (Product Growth Teams) to understand their portfolio, business strategy, prioritization, etc. to facilitate pipeline management and project execution of all Data Center deliverables
- Provide executive visibility to project, program, portfolio and functional level status, issues, risks, costs through a formal escalation methodology
- Drive project benefit and financial measures in projects and system framework
- Oversee Demand Control Processes, Resource Planning/Scheduling, Delivery Management, Business Change Management, Benefits Realization, and Strategy Refresh components of the Portfolio internal to business
- Analyze project data and monitoring ongoing adherence to processes. Oversee and manage process auditing initiatives in close partnership with the PM managers/leaders.
- Drive alignment of practices across various product lines while ensuring that the business operation is scalable to meet the needs.
Qualifications:
- BS or MS in relevant Engineering Fields
- PMI PMP Certification required
- MS Project Experience required
- Scrum | Agile Methodology experience preferred
- Waterfall Methodology Experience preferred
- MS, MBA or Advance Program Management Accreditation preferred
- 10+ years of project/program execution
- Project portfolio, prioritization and demand management preferred
- Leadership experience with an experience making decisions with minimal direction and prioritizing across multiple competing demands
