Job Summary:
Trane is hiring a North American Controls Field Operations Leader to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for the strategy, execution, and maturity advancement of our Controls business by supporting regional controls leaders in North America. Trane’s controls business has enjoyed incredible recent growth thanks to industry-leading technology, investment in sales resources, expansion of markets served, and safe, high quality delivery. This role is critical in accelerating that growth in the face of competitive pressures, changing technologies, and shortages of skilled labor.
Responsibilities:
- Strategy
- Participate in strategy development for all contracting business streams.
- Create and execute plans to drive regional office implementation of key technologies and programs such as wireless communications, connectivity, automated commissioning, factory-installed controls, and other productivity and quality drivers.
- Partner closely with adjacent teams on issues of strategic importance to the energy services and controls business such as indoor air quality, lighting, digital service, service agreement linkage, and pullthrough.
- Maturity advancement
- Through matrix management, provide leadership, coaching, and oversight for leaders in the controls business stream in our regional offices.
- Work with regional controls and HR leaders to establish required capabilities and staffing levels of controls organization and to establish and sustain a healthy pipeline of controls talent.
- Participate in creation and delivery of training programs for controls associates
- Execution
- Support regional office achievement of budget and safety objectives in the controls business
- Analyze business metrics and drive focused countermeasures appropriately; proactively review daily, weekly, and monthly reports to identify anomalies and seek root causes.
- Partner closely with controls sales leadership to identify growth markets, manage pipeline, and pursue opportunities of strategic value
- Create and implement a large controls project acquisition and execution oversight program, including staffing and supervision
- Partner closely with controls product management and contracting tools teams to provide voice of business and customer, forecast hardware needs, support new product and tool adoption, and respond to field issues.
- Standard work
- Accountable for needs identification, development, deployment, and adoption of standard work in the controls businesses in the regions
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing of effective countermeasures and strategies as standard work across regional offices
Overnight travel expected to be two overnight trips of two to three nights per month and quarterly week-long trips.
Qualifications:
- Ten years of experience leading large building automation businesses and a bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with all phases of HVAC and/or energy management projects with associated direct experience in building automation including estimating, engineering, project management, installation, programming, and commissioning.
Critical Competencies:
- Communicates effectively with regional business leaders, product management, technical support, and other stakeholders in a highly matrixed organization
- Has deep understanding of HVAC system design and manufacturing principles, current and legacy Trane Controls, competitive controls systems, and major HVAC market participants
- Provides effective group training and drives engagement both in person and through technology
- Analyzes projects or opportunities with available data and provides feedback on business and technical merit
- Leads cross-functional teams to deliver initiatives using lean practices and tools

Base + Bonus Pay Range (for Colorado Residents): Minimum Base + Bonus: $142,000 Maximum Base + Bonus: $330,000
Additional Compensation: Equity Opportunity - Min: $12,500 Max: $27,500
